Alice Lloyd College was ranked in the top 50 by Washington Monthly’s 2020 College Rankings in two categories: “2020 Bachelor Colleges Ranking” and “2020 Best Bang for the Buck Rankings: South.” Washington Monthly picks schools that benefit the country. Alice Lloyd College is humbled to receive these rankings.

Washington Monthly ranked ALC in the top 50 of “2020 Bachelor Colleges Ranking.” These rankings go to four-year, degree-granting institutions based on their contribution to the public good in social mobility, research, and promoting public service. Alice Lloyd College’s mission is to serve the community by encouraging Appalachian people to help their fellow Appalachians, thus creating leaders for our region.

ALC was also listed in the top 50 of “2020 Best Bang for the Buck Rankings: South,” an exclusive list of colleges ranked according to how well they help need-based students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices. Mrs. Lloyd once made a promise to never turn away a qualified student because of an inability to pay. Thanks to the generosity of wonderful friends and supporters across the country, we continue to keep this promise to our students.

When Mrs. Lloyd began educating those on Caney Creek nearly 100 years ago, she envisioned young people in the Appalachian region getting the same quality of education as those in other areas of America. Today, students continue to receive a high-quality, character-based education, regardless of their financial resources.
