Appalachia Day Homecoming

Because so many in our region have been impacted by recent Eastern Kentucky flooding, ALC will not host Appalachia Day Homecoming, which was scheduled for October 8th. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the College.

Many faculty, staff, students, and alumni have dedicated countless hours working to meet the needs of those around us since the flooding occurred. In lieu of Appalachia Day Homecoming, we are declaring a Virtual Day of Service for Alice Lloyd College. ALC has always regarded service as an integral part of one’s life, and it is especially relevant during our flood recovery. On October 8th, the College is encouraging alumni and friends of the school to commit to a day of volunteer service in their own community, or wherever they see a need.

Alice Lloyd College holds its annual Appalachia Day Homecoming celebration every second Saturday of October. Hundreds of friends and alumni gather on campus to listen to traditional mountain music and peruse booths displaying the arts and crafts of Appalachian artisans. Other events which take place during this day of fun and fellowship include the annual Alumni Association Meeting, various athletic events, children’s storytelling, an Appalachian writers’ book signing, the induction of new members into the ALC Athletic Hall of Fame, the coronation of the Homecoming Queen and Princess, and the traditional soup bean supper.

Schedule of Events

Below is a tentative schedule of what we have planned for Our Appalachia Day Homecoming, which will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021. The Appalachia Day Homecoming event is coordinated each year by the Office of Alumni Relations and the Office of Marketing & Communications.
