Alice Lloyd College Honors Program provides academic scholarships for select students from our 108 central Appalachian county service area who have a commitment to service in the Appalachian region. This prestigious program consists of the Presidential Scholarship and Dean’s Distinguished Scholarship. The Presidential Scholarship covers the full cost of education, including tuition, food, housing, fees, and books. The Dean’s Distinguished Scholarship provides an additional $1,500 per year in addition to the Appalachian Leaders Scholarship, which covers the cost of tuition. Additionally, both scholarships provide continued assistance throughout graduate and/or professional school through the Gatton Winston Scholars Program, provided the student meets Gatton Winston Scholars requirements.

Honors Program Criteria

  • Exemplary character, consistent with traditional Christian values, as evidenced by outstanding leadership, strong work ethic, and community service
  • Resident of the 108-county service area
  • A desire to strive for excellence and to be successful
  • Minimum ACT of 25 or SAT of 1210
  • Minimum 3.50 core GPA

Submission of the following documents to the Office of Admissions:

  • Application for Admission
  • Official high school transcript
  • Official ACT or SAT scores
  • Completed Housing/Commuter Form and Deposit
  • Completed Interview Process
  • Two academic recommendation letters (i.e., principal, teacher, etc.) stating specific examples of the student’s character and leadership
  • Two character-based recommendation letters (ex., Pastor, community leader, etc. stating specific examples of the student’s character and leadership
  • Personal Statement
  • Completed FAFSA
