The Alice Lloyd Eagles baseball squad ventured to Pikeville, Kentucky to take on the UPike Bears on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles won the extra-inning-marathon (13) against Pikeville by a score of 3-2.

Chris Delgado was given the ball by head coach Scott Cornett to start this single game set against the Bears. There was no score through the first two innings of play, but in the third inning, Pikeville struck first with an RBI base hit by their left fielder Zach Nothwehr. This made the score 1-0 after three.

ALC replied in the fifth inning with a run of their own to tie the score at 1. Neither team was able to score in the sixth or seventh inning, so that meant the game was going to head into extra frames. Alice Lloyd scored the go-ahead run in the top half of the tenth only to see UPike even things back up at 2 in the bottom half. Finally, the Eagles would take the lead for good in the thirteenth with what turned out to be the game-deciding run.

Austin White and Alex Dapkus had one RBI each for ALC. Delgado lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits, one earned run while striking out one and walking one. Jordan Horn, Ryan Burrow, Chance Westerfield and Timmy Sublett pitched five and two-thirds innings combined in relief, giving up five hits but did not allow a run. Neil Dillon pitched the last four and two-thirds innings, surrendering three hits and one earned run.

The Eagles return to ALC’s Reeve Athletic Field on Friday, February 28th, for a doubleheader versus Mt. St. Joseph at 1 PM.
