Pippa Passes, KY. –  The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles hosted NCAA DIII opponent, Berea College, on Tuesday in a doubleheader.

GAME 1
BC – 8 | ALC – 2

In game one, the Lady Mountaineers rallied behind the strength of a three-run homer and won 8-1.

ALC left fielder Jada Estep got the game started off right in the bottom of the first with a single. She later scored on a single from Mercedez Gilliam to give the ladies from Caney Creek a 1-0 lead.

The score held until the top of the third inning when Berea’s Abby Nash blasted a three-run shot over the wall.  The visitors added three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to give them an advantage they would not relinquish.

The Lady Eagles tried to mount a comeback in the final inning as shortstop Alexis Napier singled and then later scored on a grounder. Unfortunately, the rally fizzled.

ALC was only outhit 9-8, but could not muster the crucial hit when they most needed it. First baseman Samantha Sturgill and Alexis Napier each recorded 2 hits in the losing cause.

Morgan Albury suffered the loss on the mound. She allowed 7 hits over five innings (5 earned), walked 6, and struck out 5 batters.

Jacqui Howard earned the win allowing 2 runs and 8 hits while striking out 7.

GAME 2
BC – 13 | ALC – 0

In game two, BC rode the long distance ball once again to earn the victory.

The Mountaineers scattered 5 runs over the first four innings before exploding with 8 big runs in the fifth to seal the deal. For the second straight game, BC’s Abby Nash homered; she also added a double. Teammate Annaliese Hackney also homered and doubled. Both players batted in 3 runs as well.

ALC was led by Jada Estep and McKenzie Brewer with 2 hits each.

Kaitlyn Wyatt allowed 4 runs in 3 innings and suffered the loss. Jacqui Howard tossed a five-hit shutout for BC.

The Eagles were outhit 12-5.  In the two games combined, they left an incredible 24 runners stranded on base which proved their downfall.
