PIPPA PASSES, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagle’s baseball team played host to the Wright State-Lake Lakers in a three-game series over the weekend. Below are recaps of each contest.

March 3
Game One
WSL-8 | ALC-5

The USCAA affiliated Lakers led 4-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning when ALC dented the scoreboard. Anthony Hughes reached third base and Bristol McGee drove him in with a grounder.

The Eagles would take the lead one inning later. Assisted by a series of walks, 1 error, and an RBI, courtesy of Logan Gibbs, they exploded for four runs to leap ahead 5-4.

Unfortunately, WSL would respond with 3 scores of their own in the top of the sixth inning and tacked on an insurance run in their last at-bat. They would make the lead hold up as they earned the victory.

On the mound, Chase Ruiz earned the victory in relief while Levi Martin suffered the loss, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits while striking out 2. Jacob Banks tossed the final inning for ALC and struck out 3 batters.

The Eagles were outhit 14-5. Austyn Turner led Eagle batsmen with 2 hits.

Game Two
WSL-6 | ALC-2

The visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead three innings in. The Eagles earned one run back in the bottom of the third when Gavan Rupe reached base and Isaac Stephens drove him in with a double.

The score would remain unchanged until the sixth when WSL scored 3 big insurance runs in the top of the inning and ALC answered with 1 of their own. The Eagles scored when Caleb Mills reached base and Peyton Buford knocked him in with a single. Unfortunately, the rally would fizzle out.

From there, Laker relief pitcher Noah Greathouse threw two innings of relief to seal the win.

On the day, Wright State outhit the hosts 10-4. ALC was led by Stephens with 2 hits while Wyatt Crisp added another double and Buford had a single.

On the mound, Lucas Sheriff earned the victory as he allowed only 1 run on 2 hits over five innings, striking out 8. Jake Weaver suffered the loss as he allowed 6 runs on 10 hits while striking out 4.

March 4
WSL-18 | ALC-8

The visitors jumped out to a 12-0 lead as they scatted their runs over five innings. ALC finally responded with a big 5 run fifth inning. Tyler Mullins drove in Dalton Cornett with a sacrifice fly. Next, Gavan Rupe smacked a double to score another run. Jake Moran then singled in a couple more in before an error allowed the fifth run to score.

Unfortunately, any hope of a big comeback quickly evaporated as the Lakers plated 6 big runs in the top of the eighth. The hosts would respond with 3 of their own in the bottom of the same inning, but the lead was simply too great to overcome.

Laker pitcher Casey Grimm allowed 5 hits and 3 runs over 5.2 innings to take the win while striking out 6. Alec Carter suffered the loss as he allowed 7 runs on 10 hits while striking out 5 in four innings of work.

On the day, Wright State outhit the hosts 18-10. ALC was led by Cornett with 2 hits while Rupe added a double.
