For the past several years, the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition has brought back its much-loved General Knowledge test for its yearly Governor’s Cup competitions. The General Knowledge test is comprised of fifty questions, ten from each of the Governor’s Cup’s five main written assessment content areas, making it a tricky task for students who usually specialize in only one or two subjects. However, up until this year’s iteration of the competition, the General Knowledge exam had only been an option at the state finals; this year, KAAC has extended the test to all three levels of the Governor’s Cup competition – district, region, and state.

In this year’s district Governor’s Cup competition, the June Buchanan School is extremely proud to announce that two of its students placed in the top ten for the entire state on the General Knowledge exam. Sophomore Austin Moore placed third in the state, and senior Taylor Marshall placed tenth in the state. Another sophomore on the team, Brody Hall, was only one question away from placing in the state top ten as well. “Their hard work and dedication continue to pay off,” says coach Trey Moore. “These kids practice for multiple hours every day, go home and study their subjects, and still come back the morning eager to do it all over again because they want to be the best they can be. We’re super excited to see what region and state bring.”

The Crusaders will be looking to defend their title of regional champions on February 22nd when they again host the 14th Region Governor’s Cup competition. After the regional tournament, they will be looking ahead to the KAAC Governor’s Cup State Finals hosted at the Galt House in Louisville from March 14th – 17th.
