During the annual Honors Day Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, April 11th, Alice Lloyd College announced the naming of The Roop Auditorium in the Estelle Campbell Center for the Arts. The auditorium was named in honor of Chip, Laury, Gracie, and Isaiah Roop for their dedicated passion and support for Christian values and Alice Lloyd College.

Chip Roop, a native of Pikeville, KY, and his wife, Laury, are trustees of The Roop Foundation. The Foundation, founded in 2006, supports youth and young adult-focused non-profits, mainly in Texas and Kentucky. The Foundation’s goal is to bring glory to God by providing support to youth-focused organizations.

The Roop Foundation has impacted many facets of campus life, all the way from the child development center to the college students.  Like the Roop family, Alice Lloyd College remains committed to traditional Judeo-Christian values and emphasizes service over self. In his remarks after the naming of the auditorium, Mr. Roop delivered encouraging words to the students and prayed for the student body and the work being done in Pippa Passes.

“Chip and Laury have significantly improved student life here on Caney Creek. Through their foundation, they have blessed all segments of our student body, from pre-school through 12th grade at The June Buchanan School and to our college students as well. We are grateful for their friendship and investment in our important mission,” said President Jim Stepp.

In this centennial year, Alice Lloyd College remains thankful for our wonderful friends across the country who continue to provide educational opportunities for the youth of Appalachia. Miss June once said, “Mrs. Lloyd knew, and I did too, that God would continue to send friends to keep this miracle alive.”
