This week in Pippa Passes we welcome our students back from Spring Break and jump straight into a busy week featuring a convocation event and exciting sports action.

In sports news, ALC’s Men’s Baseball team will compete at Pikeville University on Tuesday, against Bluefield College at home on Wednesday, and at Indiana University Kokomo on Friday and Saturday. ALC’s Softball team will take on Ohio Christian University in an away game on Wednesday and will compete against Rio Grande University at home on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Eagles Basketball Team will compete this week in the 2023 NCCAA D1 Women’s Basketball National Championship hosted by Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana. The Lady Eagles are the #4 seed in the tournament and will kick off tournament action against #5 seed Columbia International University in Game 1 at 8:30 am on Wednesday, March 15. If the Lady Eagles are triumphant in Game 1, they will compete again in the Semifinals at 3:30 pm on Thursday, March 16 against the winner of Oakland City University vs. Kentucky Christian University. Check out the full schedule of games here.

In other news, there will be a convocation event this Tuesday in the Campbell Arts Center. Perception Artist Sean Emory will be the event guest and will be performing at 1 pm and 7 pm. Born with a severe speech impediment, Sean could barely talk. He walked to the front of his high school cafeteria and performed an impromptu magic show. Prior to that fateful day in the cafeteria, he practiced a card trick for 8 months, all the while, also teaching himself to speak. For a period of time, he was sucked in, doubting and questioning God. But, the same faith that taught him to speak and perform, led him to realize he was fully focused on knowledge and not on belief. More information about the convocation will be posted in a follow-up article later this week.

Also this week, Resident Advisors will conduct Dormitory Room Checks in all Residence Hall on the evening of Thursday, March 16. There will be Resident Advisor positions open in all five residence halls this fall. Any student interested in becoming an R.A. should check out the March 13 Edition of The Campus Voice student newsletter, ask a current R.A., and/or see Ms. Christine Stumbo or Dean of Students John Mills. Applications may be picked up in DSC 205 and must be returned by April 14 this semester for consideration.
