On the evening of Thursday, March 30th, Alice Lloyd College Theatre (in association with ALC’s Alpha Chi Omega) will present its first performance of Southern Fried Funeral by Osborne and Eppler. This classic 1980s sitcom flashback show is a big-hearted comedy about family—Southern style! Dewey Frye is dead and the rest of his family is left to pick up the pieces—if they don’t kill each other first. Not only does matriarch Dorothy have to contend with sudden widowhood, but she’s also faced with church-committee harpy Ozella Meeks sticking her nose in the family business, Dewey’s snake-in-the-grass brother making a grab for her house, and two grown daughters reliving their childhood rivalry. Funerals bring out the worst, the best, and the funniest in people, and the Fryes are no exception. We hope you’ll join us as ALC Theatre brings this dysfunctional family to life!

The first show will begin in the Campbell Arts Center at 7 pm and admission is free. Students attending Thursday nights’ performance will be given convocations credit. ALC Theatre will also be performing the play in the Campbell Arts Center at 7 pm on Friday, March 31st and Saturday, April 1st.

Alice Lloyd College Theatre has collaborated with Admissions, the Education Department, and the Business Department to collect various props and set pieces and has cast and crew members representing every department on campus all working together towards this performance. This semester’s cast has a wide variety of experience levels– including some students who have never been in a show before. Despite the challenge of working with performers with varied levels of experience, play Director Natalie Holt says it is very rewarding since everyone has grown and developed as actors.

Mrs. Holt is proud to say that the show is completely executed by the students. They control the tech elements, backstage work, hair and makeup, and even set construction. “They are the ones creating the world of the play,” she says.

Once again, admission to ALC Theatre shows is always free. We hope to see you at our shows March 30-April 1 at 7 pm in the Campbell Arts Center!
