Former ALC student Cody Howard was the guest performer for Tuesday, February 21st’s convocation at 1pm in the Campbell Arts Center Auditorium.

Cody is a singer/songwriter born and raised in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Harlan, Kentucky. With his melodic voice, Cody is steadily putting down roots in the proverbial field of country music– and for good reason.

The young troubadour possesses a skill for both words and melody, and a vibrant passion for sharing his songs with the world. His influences span from the likes of the greats like Willie Nelson, John Prine, Guy Clark, and Townes Van Zandt, but Cody pins a distinctive sound all on his own. With a unique take on the Appalachian narrative, Cody blends elements of classic country and rock ‘n’ roll with a newer, more modern take.

In March 2022, Cody released his debut album ‘Appalachian Dream’ to critical acclaim. Now with nearly 20,000 listens and a numerous amount of reviews and articles, songs like “Warsaw”, “Bluegrass”, and “Another Life” continue to weave their way into the hearts of those who listen. Cody continues to write and share his stories. He is a recently discovered jewel of the mountains and now is his time to shine.

Cody played a set of 13 songs for the ALC audience. His set featured mostly original songs with a few covers of local artists. Three of Cody’s songs were new and currently not released, though he shoots to release another album sometime this year. The ALC audience loved the list and were excited to know they can find Cody’s music on most popular streaming services.

Cody encourages listeners to follow him on Instagram (@realcodyhoward) where he posts regular updates about gigs and releases.

The next convocation event is the Mongiardo Speech Competition scheduled for Tuesday, February 28 at 1 pm in the Campbell Arts Center Auditorium.
