Jessica Amburgey, a 2008 ALC Alumna, recently received the SCP Health Excellence in Leadership Award. She was chosen out of 7,500 applicants for her constant demonstration of exceptional leadership and proven results. Jessica currently serves as Medical Director at ARH Our Lady of the Way Hospital in Martin, Kentucky, and Lead PA for ARH Emergency Departments. She is also a Lincoln Memorial University – School of Medical Sciences (LMU-SMS) Doctor of Medical Science (DMS) student. She is on track to graduate from her DMS program in December 2022.

Growing up in Knott County, Jessica was familiar with Alice Lloyd College and attended several birthday parties at the Grady Nutt Athletic Center pool as a child. Even though she applied to ALC without fully knowing what she wanted her future career to be, she pursued a degree in biology. Jessica developed leadership skills and strong study habits on Caney Creek that prepared her for graduate and professional schools. She continued her studies at the University of Kentucky and graduated in 2011 with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (PA). Reflecting upon her many studies in school and her field, Jessica states, “There is always something to learn, a skill to perfect, an additional class to take or certificate to obtain. ALC gave me the groundwork necessary to continue building myself as a professional and a person.”

Jessica’s talents and skills at ALC have helped her better serve the Appalachian region. While being nominated for a national award was an honor, she says about winning, “It’s quite the honor! To receive national recognition for my work and contribution is a bit surreal. It is definitely encouraging and makes me excited for the potential my future holds.” Alice Lloyd College would like to congratulate Jessica on all her hard work and successes, and the College is also looking forward to what your future holds.
