Berea, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles and Eagles Outdoor Track and Field squad traveled to central Kentucky on April 2nd to participate in the Berea Invitational, hosted by NCAA DIII opponent, Berea College.
Despite a cold start to the competition, 11 women’s and 13 men’s squads from various affiliations were determined to give their best effort.
In women’s action, the Lady Eagles finished in 8th position with 30 points. They were sparked by hurdler Sarah Cecil who was impressive in winning the 100M hurdles (10.93) to earn 10 big points. She also came in 4th in the 400M hurdles (1.10.93) to capture 5 more team points. Furthermore, both performances surpassed the needed standard and automatically qualifies her for the NCCAA Track and Field Nationals, which will be held later this semester.
Riley Scheck continued her steady season as she finished 2nd in the Javelin throw. Her throw of 32.59M earned her a 2nd Place finish and 8 points for the squad. Out of 20 participants, she was one of only two ladies to exceed a toss of 30M.
Suzann Moore also came through with 4 points for the squad, as she was 5th in the 400M run (1:08.54). Additionally, Madison Thompson unleashed a 4.46M leap in the long jump for a 6th Place finish and 3 points.
On the men’s side of things, the Eagles finished with 28 points, which earned them 8th Place. Dakota Owens came up huge with a 1st Place finish in the 400M dash. His time of 49:95 was good for 10 points. Furthermore, Owens finished 4th in the 200M dash. His time of 22:48 was worth 5pts. Both of his times also surpassed the needed standard and automatically qualifies him for the NCCAA Track and Field Nationals.
In the high jump, Gerald Bentley soared to a height of 1.85M to earn 4th Place and 5 team points. This leap also surpassed the needed standard and automatically qualifies him for the NCCAA Track and Field Nationals.
Andre Harless earned 6 points for the Eagles, as his 1:02.64 run in the 400M Hurdles gave him a 3rd Place finish. In addition, Nick Chasteen finished 8th in the 100M Dash (11:56) to earn 1 point, while Jordan Strevels, finished 8th in the 400M Dash (54.71) and earned 1 point.
