Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball team (7-31), hosted the powerful University of the Cumberlands Patriots (35-12) in a single game contest on April 20th. In eight innings, the visitors prevailed, 15-3.

ALC struck in the opening inning when Cannon Ferrell (CF) opened the game with a double and later scored on a fielder’s choice (1-0).

UC utilized 1 hit and 2 errors to score 2 in the top of the third (2-1). They would then add 3 runs in the fourth (5-1).

In the fifth and sixth innings, they would swat 2 homers in each, and add a solo shot in the seventh. Suddenly, they had vaulted ahead, 11-1.  

Alice Lloyd earned two of those back in the seventh when 4 consecutive singles led to 2 scores (11-3).

However, consecutive homers in the UC eighth plated 3 more runs (15-3) and basically ended the contest.

For the Pippa Passes crew, Ferrell led the day with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s.

Will Gladson started on the mound for ALC, allowing 6 hits and 7 runs. He also struck out 3 over four innings of work. Alex Acey, Jason Frye, and DJ Goodin all pitched in relief.

The Patriots racked up 13 hits on the day to Alice Lloyd’s 7. ALC committed 2 errors.
