Pippa Passes, KY: On February 16th, the NCCAA Mideast Regional Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles hosted Shawnee State University. Following are recaps of each contest.
GAME 1
SSU-13; Alice Lloyd-0
Shawnee pounded out 18 hits to take the opener going away.
The visitors opened up the scoring in the second with 7 runs on 7 hits. They added 3 runs apiece in both the third and fourth innings to lead 13-0.
For ALC, they would be held to just two hits, a single in the second from freshman Maleigh McDaniel and a single in the fifth from freshman Ellie Keene.
Junior pitcher Haley Howell suffered the loss on the mound. She went five innings, allowing 7 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 2 and walking 1.
The Eagles were outhit, 18-2.
GAME 2
SSU- 11; Alice Lloyd- 3
Shawnee State jumped out 5-0 in the second but saw the hosts dent the scoreboard in the next inning.
In the third, ALC mounted a comeback with 4 singles that plated 2 runs. However, they ended the inning with 2 runners stranded on base (5-2).
The Ohio squad would earn those runs back in the fifth with a triple (7-2).
In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Eagles plated another run when freshman Baylee Compton smacked a double (7-3).
Unfortunately, 3 runs from SSU in the sixth gave them some cushion, and they added an additional insurance run in the seventh (11-3) to put the contest out of reach.
For ALC, Compton led the way with 2 hits.
Pitcher Emma Wargel earned the victory while sophomore Baylee Cox suffered the loss despite allowing only 2 earned runs. She allowed 11 hits and whiffed 7 batters.
Shawnee took the hitting battle, 17-5.
