We split the ALC Women’s Student-Athlete of the Week honor between junior cross-country speedster Carlee Salyers who ran an impressive race at the NCCAA DII National Cross-Country Championships, held in Joplin, Missouri, and the women’s volleyball squad.

Salyers, a native of Pound, Virginia, took second place at the NCCAA DII Women’s Cross-Country National Championship. She completed the 5k course at 19:31, helping the squad to a runner-up team finish. Her time was the fastest ever recorded by a Lady Eagle in the national tournament and she was only two seconds off her school-record time of 19:29. For her performance, she was named NCCAA All-American for the third consecutive season.

In addition, Salyers was honored at the nationals by being chosen the recipient of the NCCAA’s most prestigious award given for women’s Cross Country, the Ray Bullock Award. Furthermore, she was recognized as a NCCAA Scholar-Athlete and she currently holds a 4.0 GPA.

We also wish to recognize the women’s volleyball squad for their runner-up finish in the NCCAA Mideast Region Tournament. In the process, the squad finished the season with a school-record 14-7 mark.
