Pippa Passes, KY: Four players hit double figures to lift the Alice Lloyd College Eagles to a 92-85 Monday night victory over the Welch College Flames. The contest was the first of two non-conference games scheduled for this week.

In the first half, the Flames came ready to play as they quickly gained the advantage. A combination of red-hot three-point shooting from Welch coupled with a cold spell from the Eagles enabled the visitors to pull out to a 33-19 lead with 6:28 showing.

Fortunately, sparked by two consecutive trifectas from junior guard Bryce Slone, and the rebounding of junior forward Will Philpot, the Eagles closed the half on an explosive 21- 6 burst to take a slim 40-39 at intermission.

In the second half, the Caney Creek crew would see senior guard Noah Young and sophomore forward Damon Tobler combine for 25 points and permit their squad to hold the lead. The Eagles would keep distance between themselves and the Flames, but the Tennessee squad refused to go away.

Even though Welch would never quit, the Pippa Passes boys would drain their free throws down the stretch to keep their foe at bay.

For the victors (6-0) Tobler sank 9-12 shots and finished with 21 points. He also nabbed 5 rebounds and dished off 5 assists. Philpot played a solid all-around game as he recorded a double-double. He contributed 16 points, snagged 15 rebounds, handed out 5 assists, and added 3 steals.

Young and Slone would contribute 12 points apiece. Young would lead the team with 6 assists while Slone bagged 4-8 bombs. Junior center Colyn Sturgill added 2 blocks and 5 boards.

Alice Lloyd shot 49.3 % (34-69) from the floor and 31.3 % (5-16) from behind the arc. They finished 70.4% (19-27) from the foul line. They also gained 47 rebounds, while adding 23 assists, 8 steals, and 5 blocks.

Welch (4-6) was led by Spencer Smith with 21 points. His squad shot 42.9% (33-77) from the floor, and 41.2% (14-34) from behind the arc. They finished 71.4% (5-7) from the foul line, and also had 38 rebounds, 17 assists, and 9 steals.

The Eagles return to action in a doubleheader with the Lady Eagles, Tuesday, November 23rd, when both host Carolina University. Tip-off is set for 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm respectively.
