RICHMOND, Ind. — St. Mary-of-the-Woods College women’s cross country won the 2021 River States Conference Women’s Cross-Country Championship on Saturday.

In its first year in the conference, St. Mary-of-the-Woods posted its win with 58 points to edge runner-up Point Park University which finished with 61.

Indiana University Kokomo was third with 70 points, while the other squads in order were Indiana University East 115, Brescia University 132, University of Rio Grande 189, Oakland City University 191, Alice Lloyd College 207, Carlow University 246, WVU Tech 264, Ohio Christian University 282 and Midway University 285

Point Parks’s Alyssa Campbell was the individual champion with a time of 18:29. The top six finishers not from NAIA team qualifier St. Mary earned individual qualifications to the NAIA National Championship. Alice Lloyd (KY) was led by Carlee Salyers, (21:24) who finished the race in 11th position. Her solid time just missed qualifying by 22 seconds and earned her Second Team All-Conference honors.

The RSC Champions of Character Team was also selected with one member of each team named for best representing the NAIA five-character values: Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Servant Leadership, and Sportsmanship.

On the men’s side, Midway (Ky.) University captured the 2021 River States Conference Men’s Cross Country Championship as the Eagles finished with 96 points in the 12-team affair. Indiana University Kokomo and University of Rio Grande (Ohio) tied for second with 97. IU Kokomo was awarded runner-up with its sixth runner finishing higher. 

The other team scores were Point Park University 104, St. Mary-of-the-Woods College 110, Ohio Christian University 148, Indiana University East 179, Alice Lloyd College 183, WVU Tech 216, Oakland City University 263, Carlow University 315, and Brescia University 316 

Rio Grande’s Cody Booth was the individual champion with a time of 26:06 as he was named the RSC Men’s Cross-Country Runner of the Year. Alice Lloyd (KY) was led by Ryan Morris, (28:11) who finished the race in 10th position. His solid time just missed qualifying by 11 seconds and earned him Second Team All-Conference honors.
