Eagles Coach Scott Cornett named Mideast Region Winner

 

GREENVILLE, SC- The NCCAA has just announced its national awards for the 2020-21 season, and Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagle head mentor John Mills was named NCCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Coach of the Year.

The veteran mentor guided the #5 Lady Eagles to the NCCAA DI Women’s National Tournament. Once there, his squad played their best ball of the year as they mowed down the #5, #1, and #2 seeds to win the school’s first-ever National Championship on any level. The club finished the Covid-shortened season with an 11-7 mark.

In addition, Mills was also selected as the DI Mideast Region Women’s Coach of the year. This is the second consecutive year he has garnered that award.

On the men’s side, Eagles coach Scott Cornett was named as the DI Mideast Region Men’s Coach of the Year. This is the second consecutive year he has garnered that award.

Cornett guided the Eagles to a Covid-shortened 18-8 mark, and they also earned a berth in the NCCAA DI Men’s National Tournament. Once there, his 7th seeded squad upset the #2 overall club to advance to the Final Four. They then fell to the #3 and #1 seeds and finished in fourth place nationally.
