Rio Grande, OH: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles opened River States Conference Tournament play on February 22nd as they drew into a road game at Rio Grande University. In a contest that was not settled until the final four minutes, the host Red Storm pulled away to win, 91-81.

In the opening period, despite seven points from Lady Eagle senior guard Haley Hall, RGU jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead and held on to end the period up 18-15,

In period two, the Lady Eagles would fall behind by seven, before forward Madison Thompson helped chip into the lead. Despite this, the Red Storm maintained that advantage and held on to a 38-33 cushion at intermission.

As the third period began, ALC would get a huge boost from senior center Alexandria Clifton. They would score the first 9 points of the stanza and put up 28 big points. Due to this, the visitors led 62-59 entering the final ten minutes.

In the crucial last ten minutes, the clubs battled tooth-and-nail. At 4:07, Thompson scored to knot the contest at 77. Unfortunately, from this point, the Ohio club closed on a 14-4 spurt to put the game out of reach.

For Alice Lloyd (8-7), Hall led the club with 19 points and 4 steals. Thompson was a force on both ends as she scored 14 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and blocked 7 shots.

Clifton added 12 points, while senior guard Ali May chipped in with 10. Fellow senior guard Shelby Davis handed out 6 assists.

The Caney Club finished shooting 43.3% (29-67) from the field and 31.3% (5-16) from the long-range. They connected on 81.8% (18-22) from the charity line, while adding 39 rebounds, 15 assists, and 8 steals.

RGU (16-7) was paced by Lexi Woods with 25 points. Her squad finished shooting 48.5% (33-68) from the field and 21.4% (3-14) from behind the arc. They sank 84.6% (22-26) from the foul line and added 37 rebounds, 15 assists, and 11 steals.

The Lady Eagles have now completed NAIA play. They next return to action in the NCCAA Mideast Regional Tournament. The opponent and date will be announced at a later date.
