Alice Lloyd College is pleased to announce the introduction of a test-optional application process to aid students who may have faced cancellations of state ACT and SAT testing during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the new process, which goes into effect immediately, prospective students applying to ALC are no longer required to submit ACT or SAT scores as part of the admission process. Even student-athletes may apply in this manner, though they must submit a test score to the NAIA under current eligibility requirements.

The process is simple. Students can submit an application, denote test-optional, and then submit supporting materials detailing their academic career. Prospective students who decide to apply test-optional will receive full consideration for admission, without penalty, but test scores are required for those applicants seeking acceptance into the honors program.

“With the ongoing pandemic and the difficulties students are already facing, we want to take away any barriers that could prevent them from applying to ALC,” says Lafie Crum, vice president for academic affairs. “This move opens the door for Appalachian students to take advantage of a high-quality education close to home.”

For nearly one hundred years, Alice Lloyd College has remained committed to offering a quality, character-based education to mountain students, while charging no tuition. Students who choose to apply test-optional will receive the Appalachian Leaders Scholarship, which covers the full cost of tuition for in-territory students.

High standards of conduct and attitude are consistent with the tradition and philosophy of Alice Lloyd College. The holistic test-optional application process focuses on academic rigor and high school GPA, extracurricular and co-curricular activities, community service, student character, and much more.

All Alice Lloyd College admissions counselors are available virtually and in-person to assist with the test-optional application process, offer campus tours, and answer any questions about campus life at ALC. Visit www.alc.edu/admissions/apply/apply-now/ to apply now!
