Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles got off to a solid start before being forced to withstand a comeback attempt by the visiting Brescia University Lady Bearcats. Fortunately, the home squad held on and pulled out the big 74-71 victory in a matchup on Tuesday, January 26th.

In the opening period, ALC played solid ball. They would see senior center Alexandria Clifton pump in 10 points and lift her club to a 24-13 lead after ten minutes of action.

In the second quarter, the hosts would extend their advantage to 17 points before six Bearcat points in the final thirty seconds made the score 44-33 at intermission.

As the third period began, BU would turn to guard Alecea Homer to keep them in the game. Her 10 points would enable Brescia to pull within just three (60-57) by period’s end.

In the final stanza, the Lady Bearcats would hang close, but 8 points from Lady Eagle sharpshooter Ali May enabled the Pippa Passes club to hang on for the critical victory.

For Alice Lloyd (4-4), May drilled 7-10 field goals and 4-5 3FG to lead all scorers with 20 points.

Clifton reached double figures with 12 points and added 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Senior guard Haley Hall and sophomore guard Jasmine Eley both added 9 points apiece. Hall and May each handed off 2 assists while 3 different players had 2 steals each.

The Caney Club finished shooting 45.6% (29-65) from the field and 26.7% (4-15) from long range. They connected 75% (15-20) from the charity line while adding 31 rebounds, 6 assists, and 12 steals.

Homer paced BU (1-12) with 16 points. Her squad finished shooting 45.9% (28-61) from the field and 30% (6-20) from behind the arc. They sank 57.1% (12-21) from the foul line and added 34 rebounds, 9 assists, and 10 steals.

The Lady Eagles return to action on Saturday, January 28th, when they host the Asbury University Lady Eagles for a 1 pm tipoff.
