Milligan College, TN: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles, under the guidance of Coach John Mills, opened the 2020-21 season on the road against a tough Milligan College Lady Buffalo squad. When the dust had settled, the visitors had earned the big 83-74 victory.
In the opening quarter, ALC jumped out with solid play to take control. They kept the momentum and led 27-19 after ten minutes of action.
In the second stanza, Alice Lloyd went cold, which allowed the host club to chip away at the deficit. Despite only scoring 13 points, the Lady Eagles led 40-37 at half-time.
As the third period began, the Lady Buffaloes stampeded out of the locker room determined to reverse course. Although the entire segment was tight, ALC extended their lead to 61-56, entering the final ten minutes.
The last period would see the visitors maintain their advantage, as they refused to allow their foe to get any closer. Clutch free-throw shooting chalked the “W” in the victory column for the Pippa Passes crew.
For the victors (1-0), three players reached double figures. Senior guard Haley Hall played well as she pumped in 26 points. She added 3 steals and 4 assists. Sophomore guard Hanna Kash knocked down 12 points and snared 4 boards while senior guard Ali May contributed 11 points and 3 steals.
Senior guard Shelby Davis chipped in with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Madison Thompson added 7 points and 8 big rebounds in her freshman debut.
Alice Lloyd finished shooting 43.9% (29-66) from the court and 25% (4-16) from deep while connecting on 70% (21-30) from the foul line. They also added 42 rebounds, 9 assists, and 15 huge steals.
MC (0-1) was led by Lily Griffith and Jaycie Jenkins, both with 22 points. Their club finished shooting 38.7% (24-62) from the floor and 31% (9-29) from behind the arc. They shot 70.8% (17-24) from the foul line. They also added 37 rebounds, 9 assists, and 3 steals.
ALC plays their next game on Tuesday, November 10th, when they travel to Williamsburg, Kentucky, to battle the University of Cumberland’s Patriots at 7:00 pm.
