Recently, Alice Lloyd College’s Campus Ministry volunteered to help with maintenance work at Camp Nathaneal in Emmalena, Kentucky. With today’s unusual times, the camp workers could not care for the property as well as they have in the past. ALC Campus Ministry Coordinator, Mary Turner, saw a need and decided to act. She helped rally almost 20 ALC students and staff to wake up early on Saturday and help with the badly needed fall clean up.
Camp Nathaneal’s Facilities Director, Jeff McIntyre, was grateful for the assistance. He stated, “It goes without saying that 2020 has been a different kind of year. It has forced many of us into situations that we normally would not choose to be a part of if we were given a choice. There are always reasons why we may get discouraged, but working at Camp Nathaneal has always had its times of encouragement and joy. I would like to thank Mary Turner and the students from Campus Ministry for coming with a great attitude and being such a great help to Camp Nathaneal. My prayer is that this will be the first of many Camp Nathaneal trips.”
Alice Lloyd College believes serving others is the highest calling we all have. To serve God and country is a lesson ALC Alumni take with them to their careers and communities. As Mrs. Lloyd said, “The leaders are here; all they need is an opportunity.” The opportunity to learn, serve, and grow into the leaders Appalachia needs.
