Palm Coast, FL: On October 19th – 21st, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles golf team made history as they journeyed to the “Sunshine State” to participate in the 2020 NCCAA Golf National Championship. The event was held at Hammock Beach Resort’s Ocean Course in beautiful Palm Coast, Florida. The Eagles earned an “At-Large” bid to this tournament, buoyed by their runner-up team finish in the Mideast Regional Tournament.
The championship was dominated by Dallas Baptist University, who finished 6 under par for the three rounds to defeat defending champion Erskine College.
Medalist for the tournament was Kevin Graves of Dallas Baptist, who was -6 for the three rounds to win by 3 strokes.
For the three-day event, Eagle golfers shot 1030 to finish 8th out of the 9 participating squads. After a rough opening-day round of 356, the ALC crew settled down to shoot 339 and 335 in the final 2 rounds.
For the event, ALC was led by senior Reece Ison, with a score of 246. This includes a solid 75 in the final round and helped him finish tied for 17th.
Freshman Mason Compton finished close behind with a score of 250, good for a tie for 20th. Senior Aaron Minor shot 257 to finish tied for 27th, while senior Isaiah Penley shot 280 to tie at 38th. Junior Korey Hanson shot 292 to finish 40th.
The final event of 2020 is the Eagle Invitational at Nob North Golf Course in Cohutta, Georgia, Nov. 2nd – 3rd.
