Wilmore, KY: – The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles and Eagles Cross Country teams journeyed to central Kentucky on October 24th to participate in the always-tough Chick-fil-A Classic hosted by Asbury University.
The women’s squad opened the event as 71 individual runners from eleven different schools toed the line for the challenging 5K (3.1 miles) race.
For the day, ALC finished 5th and was led by swift sophomore Carlee Salyers, who finished just outside the top ten in a solid time of 21:16, good enough for 12th place. She was followed by freshman Jordan Riley, who crossed the line in 29th position with a time of 22:36, and junior Brooke Vanover, who finished in 31st position with a time of 22:45. Senior Rachel McCoy finished her run at 23:10, while sophomore Cara Acey was the crucial fifth finisher for the team at 23:19.
Senior Morgan Arthur (23:25), junior Abigail Webb (23:40), freshman Sarah Cecil (24:03), freshman Peyton Rader (24:14), and sophomore Lauren Bryant (24:16) also gave a strong effort to the cause.
On the men’s side of things, 65 individual runners from eleven different schools toed the line for the 8K (5-mile) race on a hilly course.
Alice Lloyd College finished 4th and was led by impressive freshman Anthony Hidalgo (28:30) and speedy senior Ryan Morris (28:32). They finished in 13th and 15th place respectively. The freshmen trio of Josh Lee (30:09), Micah Blankenship (30:31), and Owen Lindsey (30:50) completed the top five for the squad.
Also, juniors Jacob Bush (32:16) and Jacob VanHook (33:07), along with freshman Chris Strickland (33:31), showed good effort as well.
ALC will return to action on November 7th as both squads travel to Richmond, Indiana, to participate in the River States Conference Championship.
