Men finish 1st; Women capture 2nd

Richmond, IN: – The Alice Lloyd College Running Eagles/Lady Eagles Cross Country teams began their quest to return to the NCCAA Nationals as they opened the 2020 campaign in the competitive IUE Run with the Wolves Invitational over the weekend.

The women’s squad opened the day as 33 individual runners from six different schools toed the line for the 5K (3.1-mile) race.

ALC finished 2nd of the 4 participating teams and were led by sophomore Carlee Salyers in a solid time of 22:01, good enough for 9th place. She was followed by impressive freshman Jordan Riley, who crossed the line in 10th position with a time of 22:13. The next two finishers were freshman Sarah Cecil and senior Rachel McCoy, who finished in good times of 22:43 and 22:44 respectively. Senior Morgan Arthur (14:50) was the crucial fifth finisher for the team and sealed up the runner-up position.

Freshman Peyton Rader (24:51), junior Hannah Bryant (24:58), and sophomore Lauren Bryant (25:35) also gave great effort to the cause.

On the men’s side of things, 40 individual runners from five different schools toed the line for the 8K (5-mile) race.

Alice Lloyd College finished 1st of 3 participating teams and were led by junior Alex Lewis who finished in 3rd place overall with a very swift time of 28:42.

Freshmen Owen Lindsey also cracked the top 10 with his steady time of 30:59. Fellow freshmen Joshua Lee and Micah Blankenship finished right behind in 11th and 12 position with solid times of 31:00 and 31:20. Senior Noah Stevenson (31:28) was the crucial fifth finisher for the team and locked up the winning position.

Freshman Chris Strickland (32:39), junior Jacob VanHook (34:53), junior Jacob Bush (35:24), freshman Sean Cooper (35:55) and junior Austin Lee (38:36) gave a spirited effort as well.

Alice Lloyd will return to action on September 256h, as both squads travel to Rio Grande, Ohio to participate in the Rio Grande Patty Forgey Invitational. Start time is at 10:00am.
