Pippa Passes, Ky. The Alice Lloyd College Athletics Department has released the final grade point averages for each of their varsity squads from the 2019-20 academic year. ALC wants their students to be well-rounded, critical thinking individuals who will work hard in any circumstance they find themselves. Every year, the Eagle student-athletes not only exceed in the playing arena but are also equally impressive in the classroom.
When discussing the accomplishments, Brandon Arnold, ALC’s Dean of Students, replied, “We are very proud of every student-athlete. It is challenging trying to balance classes with work-study, practices, and games.” The race for highest team GPA was fierce, but in the end, the women’s cross country squad pulled out the top spot with an outstanding grade point average of 3.53. This was just enough to edge out the women’s basketball squad, who finished a fraction behind, but still posted an impressive 3.52 mark.
Arnold would add, “In addition, the students were thrown a curve ball as they were required to do distance learning in light of COVID-19. Despite this, they still managed to exceed expectations. We congratulate them for their hard work.” The varsity sports groups, which achieved a minimum team 3.0 GPA, are as follows:
Women’s Cross Country – 3.53
Women’s Basketball – 3.52
Women’s Track and Field – 3.46
Women’s Volleyball – 3.39
