PIPPA PASSES, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles faced the Asbury University Eagles in an intense River States Conference match at the Perry Campus Center on Thursday, February 20. In a contest that was full of runs, the visitors prevailed 93-85.

The host Eagles came out of the gate on fire as they quickly jumped out to a 16-7 advantage in the opening five minutes of play. AU would claw back into contention and take their first lead with 11:48 remaining. Due to the red-hot shooting, Asbury would extend their advantage to nine (50-41) heading into intermission.

In the second half, Alice Lloyd fought to regain the lead. They would get as close as one point on several occasions and missed a shot with one-minute remaining that would have given them the lead. Unfortunately, the visitors sealed the game from the foul line.

For ALC, they were led by senior guard Blake Smith with 36 points. He added 2 assists. Sophomore guard Chandler Stewart added 15 points while junior guard Noah Young contributed 11 points and 3 steals. Sophomore forward Will Philpot added 10 rebounds.

Their squad (13-14; 7-8 RSC) connected on 36.4% (28-77) from the field and 40% (8-25) from long range. They hit 84% (21-25) from the foul line and added 42 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 steals.

AU (10-18; 4-11 RSC) was led by Eric Powell with 22 points. His club connected on 46.3% (31-67) from the field including 39.1% (9-23) from long range. They hit 78.6 % (22-28) from the foul line and added 47 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

Alice Lloyd will return to the hardwood Saturday in the final game of the season at Midway University. This huge conference matchup that will determine the squads seeding for next week’s RSC Tournament. The showdown is set for 3:00 pm.
