Senior Blake Smith continued his incredible play as he led ALC to a split in conference action.
In a difficult 88-85 overtime loss to Division Leading West Virginia Tech University, the guard poured in 35 points, handed out a career-high 11 assists, and nabbed 5 rebounds. He also had 1 block and 1 steal. Additionally, during the contest, he became just the fourth Eagle in school history to surpass the 2000-point mark for his career.
Next, in an 83-77 road victory over Rio Grande University, he led everyone with 32 points and had his second double-double of the week by grabbing 10 rebounds. He also sank 6 consecutive free throws in the last minutes to seal the win.
For the week, he averaged 33.5 points while adding 7.5 rebounds and 6 assists. He also had two double-doubles. On the season, Smith is currently third in the nation in scoring (27ppg) and shooting 49.4% from the floor
*For his efforts, he was also just named NCCAA DI National Player of the Week as well as River States Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
