Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles made the first game played in their new gymnasium a sweet one as they defeated the Carlow University (PA) Lady Celtics 85-70. The River States Conference (RSC) matchup was played Thursday, January 30th. 

ALC christened the new Perry Campus Center in style, and a large contingency of fans was on-hand to witness the beautiful new home of the Eagles basketball squads. In the opening period, the home club jumped out to a 22-16 lead behind 9 big points from senior forward Jayla Spurlock. However, Carlow would score the last eight points and the Lady Eagles led 22-16 after one.

In the second quarter, the hosts saw the one-two punch of senior guard Katie Moore and junior center Alex Clifton combine for 16 points. Due to this, the Caney Creek squad would take a 43-37 advantage at intermission.

In the third period, the Lady Eagles would heed the words of their veteran coach John Mills and play inspired ball. Spurlock would pump in 8 points to lead her squad on a 12-2 run to open the stanza. Suddenly, Alice Lloyd led 55-39 at 6:53. The home club would settle for a 66-51 cushion at the horn.

In the last quarter, the hosts would give the fans what they wanted by unleashing a 13-0 blitzkrieg during the first five minutes. Suddenly, the scoreboard read 79-51, and the game was basically over.

For the victors (10-11; 2-8 RSC), Spurlock and Moore paved the way, each with 20 points. The twosome combined to sink 7-13 from long range. Moore also handed off 6 assists. Junior guards Haley Hall and Ali May contributed 12 points apiece. Additionally, Hall led in rebounds (6) and steals (2).

Alice Lloyd shot 39.1% from the field (27-69) and 40% (12-30) from deep. They also sank 82.6% of their free throws (19-23). Additionally, they had 48 big rebounds, 14 assists, and 5 steals.

CU (8-15; 3-7 RSC) was led by Kamryn Latch with 15 points. Her club sank 35.9% (23-64) from the field and 33.3% (8-27) from long range. They connected on 65.2% (15-23) of their charity tosses. They also had 37 rebounds, 9 assists, and 2 steals.

ALC returns home this Saturday, February 1st with a big RSC showdown with Point Park (PA). Tipoff is set for 1:00 pm.
