Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles hosted the Midway University Lady Eagles on January 14 in an important River States Conference West Division showdown. The visitors hung tough for four quarters and squeaked by with a 75-70 victory.

In the first period, both squads matched buckets before MU jumped ahead to lead after ten minutes, 21-20. In the second quarter, the tight game continued as Midway won the period 22-21. As a result, the visitors would take a slim 43-41 lead at intermission.

The third period saw ALC battle hard as the offense cooled down for both squads. A late bucket gave Midway a 58-54 edge entering the final ten minutes. In the last quarter, the game remained tight, Alice Lloyd had several chances late to tie the contest but came up short on each occasion. Eventually, the guest club was able to preserve the victory.

For the ladies from Caney Creek (8-8; 1-5 RSC), junior guards Ali May and Haley Hall led the way with 16 and 14 points respectively. Fellow classmate Shelby Davis netted 10 points. Davis led in rebounds with 6 while Hall handed out 2 assists. One piece of good news was that second-leading scorer, senior guard Katie Moore, who has been out since December 14th with an injury, was able to play in limited action.

The Lady Eagles shot 33.3% (33-69) from the floor and 22.2% (4-18) from downtown. They sank 74.1% (20-27) from the foul line and added 48 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals.

Midway, now with a league-best 14-3 mark (4-2 RSC), was led on the night by Jill Enix with 15 points. Her squad shot 30.6% (22-72) from the field and 29.6% (8-27) from deep. They finished at 74.2% (23-31) from the charity stripe. They added 50 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 steals.

ALC returns to the hardwood on Thursday, January 16th, for a non-conference contest at Welch University. Tip-off is at 5:00 pm EST. They then return Saturday for an extremely critical conference showdown at Asbury University.  Tipoff is set for 1:00 pm.
