Kokomo, IN – The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles fell on the road to River States Conference opponent Indiana University Kokomo 80-83 on Saturday, December 14th.
The Lady Eagles started the game strongly and ended the first quarter with an 11-point lead over the Cougars. The home-standing Cougars sparked a run in the second quarter but the Lady Eagles were able to go into halftime holding a 3-point lead, 42-39.
The Lady Eagles continued their strong play through the third quarter and went into the final quarter leading the Cougars, 64-51. In the fourth quarter, the Cougars battled back and took the lead at the 2:59 mark. The Cougars extended their lead, but the Lady Eagles dropped five quick points to bring the score within one, 80-81. The Lady Eagles were forced to foul with 00:12 seconds remaining on the clock, and the Lady Cougars sank both free throws to make the score 80-83. The Lady Eagles put up a last-second shot to send the game into overtime, but the attempt fell short, leaving the score 80-83.
Junior guard Haley Hall led all scorers with 19 points. She added five rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists. Senior guard Katie Moore followed with 13 points and four rebounds. Fellow senior forward Jayla Spurlock added 12 points and five rebounds while junior guard Ali May contributed 11 points and three rebounds. Junior center Bailee Brainard grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
The Lady Eagles connected on 40.3% (25-62) from the floor, including 11-25 (44%) from the three-point line. They hit 19-23 from the free-throw line and added 44 rebounds, nine assists, five blocks, and two steals.
The Lady Eagles (5-5, 1-2) return to action on Monday as the host NCCAA opponent Welch College at 1:00 PM in the ALC Campus Center.
