Pippa Passes, KY: On October 15th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team hosted Mideast Regional opponent Appalachian Bible College. Coach Nathan Hall’s squad had a dogfight on their hands the first two sets before they suddenly turned the tables in the final two sets to win 3-1.

Before the contest began, the fans showed their appreciation to four valuable senior players: Lindsey Perkins, Kenzie Slone, Haley Smith, and Samantha Sturgill. These ladies have helped the volleyball program make strides each year and everyone hoped to see them sent off on a good note.

However, in set 1, ABC looked to ruin the day as they sprinted out to a 12-5 lead.

The Lady Eagles (8-7) would battle back and take their first lead at 16-15. The visitors would then go on a 9-5 run of their own to inch ahead, 24-21. Needing just 1 point to clinch the opener, AB ran into a wall as three kills and an attack error would lift the hosts to a 25-24 advantage. Freshman Adrianna Riley then ended the game for the home club on a kill, 26-24.

The two squads looked solid in set 2 as they battled tooth and nail. In a contest that saw six ties and neither team lead by more than 3 points, the game was deadlocked at 23. Unfortunately, Appalachian scored the final 2 points to win, 25-23.

Set 3 saw ALC lead 8-5 before they unleashed a 14-6 run to lead 22-11. They would win by a score of 25-16. Set 4 was all Eagles as they would extend a small 6-5 cushion with a massive 19-2 explosion to win 25-6.

On the day for the victors, Samantha Sturgill led the squad with 34 huge assists while Riley McCoy (9), Jasmine Hamilton (8) and Adrianna Riley (7) led the team in kills. Riley (6), Smith, (5), and McCoy (4) paved the way in digs while Sturgill (8), Smith (5), and Brewer (4), led in aces.
