Pikeville, KY: On October 21st, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team journeyed to Pikeville to face the home-standing University of Pikeville Lady Bears. The match was close the first two sets before the visitors pulled out the victory late in each contest. UPike then took command in set 3 to earn the match.
In set 1, the two clubs battled evenly before UP gradually pulled away down the stretch to take the opener, 25-17.
In set 2, the two squads battled from the start as the game stayed tight. Leading 20-17, the hosts finished the game with a 5-4 run to win 25-21.
In crucial set 3, Pikeville jumped out to a quick lead and stayed in full control until the final point. The 25-6 victory sealed the match for the Bears.
On the day for the Eagles, Samantha Sturgill led the way with 11 assists while Callie Richardson (5), and Lindsey Perkins (4), led in kills. Sturgill’s 12 digs paved the way in that department while Adrianna Riley and Jenni Droke contributed 7 apiece.
