Pippa Passes, KY: On September 7th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team played the defending Mideast Regional Champions from Johnson University. The match was a nail-biter the entire way before the Royals pulled out the victory.

In Game 1, the defending champions sprinted out to a 14-7 advantage only to watch the hosts fight back to slice the deficit to just one (21-20). JU then closed the match out with 4 points to win 25-20.
In Game 2, the two squads battled from the start as the game stayed close. Leading 24-22, Lady Eagle Samantha Sturgill closed the game with a big ace on the final serve to earn a 25-22 victory for her club.
In crucial Game 3, the two teams played well as they both knew the importance of gaining an advantage. The fans witnessed 9 ties in the tight set, the last being 23-23. Unfortunately, Johnson received a big kill and an ace to earn the hard-fought game, 25-23.
Game 4 was a must-win for ALC. With the score knotted at 17-17, the Royals crept ahead by two (22-20) before a 3-0 flurry gave them the victory, 25-20.
On the day for the hosts, Sturgill led the squad with 21 assists while Callie Richardson led in kills with 9. Mckenzie Brewer’s 8 digs paved the way in that department.
