Rio Grande, OH: The Alice Lloyd women’s and men’s cross-country teams traveled to Rio Grande on September 21st to compete in the Patty Forgey Invitation held on the campus of the University of Rio Grande. The weather was exceptionally warm for both races on a very challenging course.

A total of 49 women’s runners and 73 men’s runner’s representing eight colleges comprised the field for the 5K (3.1 mile) women’s race and 8K (5 miles) men’s race.

In the women’s meet, the Lady Eagles battled Lindsey Wilson University and Asbury University for spots on the podium. The score was tight with ALC finishing in third place overall.

For the event, the Lady Eagles were led by Carlee Salyers. The freshman continued her impressive season as she sprinted her way through the trail to finish in an impressive time of 20:45, good enough for first place overall. She defeated her closest challenger by 11 seconds.

Fellow freshman Sydni Smith finished in 18th place at 23:53 while classmate Cara Acey finished in 20th place in 24:01. They were followed by senior Rachel McCoy who finished in 24:40. Sophomores Hannah Bryant (26:03), Abigail Webb (26:15), junior Morgan Arthur (26:48) and sophomore Nicole McMurray (31:32) also gave a solid effort.

In the men’s event, the Eagles ran a spirited race and finished in 8th place overall.

For the meet, ALC was paced by sophomore Alex Lewis in 28th place (31:09). Freshmen Jeremy Benjamin (32:33) and sophomore Ty Reagan (32:49) were the next two finishers, while freshmen Austin Lee (37:09), and Bryson Sargent (39:43) pushed hard till the very end.

The next meet will be Saturday, October 5th. Both squads will race at the ultra-challenging Greater Louisville Classic. The race begins at 12:30 pm.
