We split the Women’s Student-Athlete of the Week honor between Samantha Sturgill and Haley Howell for their play last week.
Sturgill, a junior from Big Stone Gap (VA), had an outstanding week as the Lady Eagles went 3-1. In the two-game series with NCAA DII foe, Bluefield State, she finished 2-5 (.400) from the plate with one big home run and one double. She added 3 RBI’s and scored 3 runs to lead the club.
Howell, a freshman from Pikeville (KY), had an outstanding game as she controlled Bluefield State from the mound, tossing a five-hitter to earn the nice 11-2 victory.
She allowed only two runs while striking out three batters. Additionally, she also only allowed one walk on the day.
