Wilmore, Ky: Pippa Passes, Ky: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles softball team journeyed to central Kentucky on April 27th to face Asbury University Lady Eagles for two. The next day, they played host to the NCAA DII Bluefield State Big Blues in a softball doubleheader.  The Caney Creek squad earned three big victories for their efforts. Following are recaps of each contest.

April 27th
GAME 1
Alice Lloyd – 0 | Asbury – 12

The host Eagles dominated to take the opener.

The Wilmore squad opened the contest with 4 runs. They then would add 3 more runs in both the second and third innings to vault ahead 10-0. They would later add 2 more additional runs to end the game.

No individual statistics were provided. Asbury won the hitting battle 15-6.

GAME 2
Alice Lloyd – 3 | Asbury – 2

 The Lady Eagles redeemed themselves with an impressive performance in game two to earn a split in the series.

After Asbury scored 1 run in the second to lead 1-0, the visitor’s responded. ALC jumped out in the third inning with 2 runs and would add 1 insurance run in the fourth.

The Wilmore squad would earn 1 run back in the bottom of the fourth, but ALC pitching would keep them in check the remainder of the way to preserve the nice victory.

No individual statistics were provided. Asbury won the hitting battle 7-6.

April 28
GAME 1
Alice Lloyd – 4 | Bluefield State – 3

 The Lady Eagles came back from a 3-1 deficit to earn the first game.

ALC jumped out quickly with 1 run in their second at-bat before the Big Blues plated 3 runs in the third to lead 3-1.

Undeterred, Alice Lloyd answered with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the same inning, sparked by a two-run blast, courtesy of Samantha Sturgill. Her shot put the hosts ahead, 4-3.

From that point, Lady Eagle’s pitcher Mckenzie Brewer took over. She did not allow any more runs as she kept the B-State bats in check.

In the last inning, the visitors placed a runner on first with one out and had the go-ahead run at the plate. Brewer proceeded to induce a grounder to short which resulted in a game-ending double-play to end the contest and chalk up the win.

Jada Estep, Hannah Buchanan, and Abby Stambaugh all had 2 hits apiece. In addition to Sturgill’ s homer and 2 RBI’s, Estep added 2 doubles while Stambaugh and Mercedez Gilliam added doubles as well.

On the mound, Brewer allowed 3 earned runs and struck out 2 batters.

Bluefield State won the hitting battle, 11-8.

GAME 1
Alice Lloyd – 11 | Bluefield State – 2 (Five Innings)

 The hosts looked impressive as they knocked out the Big Blues in only five innings and earned the sweep.

After a scoreless first inning, ALC jumped out in the second inning, unleashing seven huge runs. They followed that up one inning later with 4 more runs. Suddenly, the score stood 11-0.

BSC attempted to get back in the contest with 2 runs in the fourth, but that was all they would produce against solid pitching from Haley Howell.

Jada Estep smacked 3 hits while Alexis Napier, Alissa Clark, Hannah Buchannan, and Abby Stambaugh all had 2 hits.

Estep, Buchanan, and Stambaugh all contributed 2 RBI’s while Napier, Buchanan, and Samantha Sturgill each had a double on the day.

On the mound, Howell earned the win, as she tossed a 5 hitter.

Alice Lloyd won the hitting battle, 15-5.
