Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd Eagles baseball team played host to the Hiwassee Tigers in a four-game series on April 27-28th. After the dust settled, the squads had both chalked up two wins. Below are recaps of each game.

APRIL 27
Game 1
ALC – 11 | HC – 0

 Pitcher Dylyn Brown tossed a two-hit shutout and the hosts put the game out of reach with 3 big home runs to take the opener.

The Eagles started the scoring in the first inning with 2 runs and added 1 more in the third.

Leading 3-0 entering the fourth, Alice Lloyd exploded for 6 giant runs (9-0).

In the meantime, Brown was dominant on the mound as he kept the Tigers in check. Two more runs in the fifth inning placed the game in the win column for the home squad.

Dalton Cornett would lead the way with 3 hits while Chase Madden and Peyton Buford each had 2 hits. Buford was joined in the home run club by teammates Alex White and Chance Cornett. Juan Lander added a double.

Buford, and Chance Cornett both had 3 RBI’s.

On the mound, Brown earned the impressive win, allowing 2 hits and 0 runs while registering 3 strikeouts.

ALC won the hitting battle, 12-2.

Game 2
ALC – 6 | HC-7

 The visitors jumped ahead with a big fifth inning and then were forced to hold on to earn the game two win.

Hiwassee struck first with 2 runs in the fourth inning only to witness the Eagles plate 3 runs of their own in the bottom half.

HC took command one inning later as they scored 5 runs to leap ahead 7-3.

The score remained the same until the final at-bat. The Eagles would score 3 runs and have the winning run at the plate before the rally died.

 For ALC, the big blows were home runs from Chance Cornett and Dalton Cornett. Chance Cornett registered 3 of his clubs 5 hits while adding 2 RBI’s.

 On the mound, five pitchers saw action and Noah Rasnick suffered the loss.

The Tigers won the hitting battle 7-5.

APRIL 28
Game 1
ALC – 3 | HC – 7

 The Eagles were their own worst enemy as 5 errors contributed to Hiwassee taking the opening game of the day.

 Hiwassee struck first with 4 runs in the first inning. The Eagles earned 1 run back in the bottom half (4-1).

HC added 1 in the second and held the advantage until the hosts added 2 more in the fourth to shrink the deficit to just two (5-3).

Unfortunately, the Tigers added 2 insurance runs while keeping the Eagle bats in check the remainder of the way.

For ALC, Alex White had a double while four of his teammates registered singles.

On the mound, Matt Brown suffered the loss.

The Tigers won the hitting battle 9-5.

Game 2
ALC – 2 | HC – 1

 The Caney Creek squad got another solid pitching effort that helped the Eagles salvage the split in game two.

 The Eagles started the scoring in the first inning with 1 run and added 1 more in the second.

Leading 2-0 entering the fourth, Alice Lloyd would give up 1 run but still lead 2-1.

The score remained the same the rest of the way. Cornett and Peyton Buford both had 2 hits on the day. Matt Grigsby came on in relief in the final two innings and slammed the door shut.

The victors pitching combined to toss a 4 hitter with 7 strikeouts and only 1 walk.

ALC won the hitting battle, 7-4.
