The Alice Lloyd Eagles baseball team was busy over the weekend as they hosted Johnson University in a doubleheader. Below are recaps of each game.

MARCH 30
Game 1
ALC – 6 | JU – 7

JU scored 1 in the top of the seventh to put away the opening game.

Each club scored 1 run in their first at-bat, but the Eagles did the same in both the second and third to lead 3-1.

In the fourth, Johnson earned 1 of those back only to watch ALC respond with 2 of their own. Alice Lloyd led 5-2 as the contest entered the sixth.

In the sixth, JU exploded for 4 runs to stunningly take the lead, 6-5. In the seventh, the visitors would add 1 insurance run.

The hosts would battle furiously to come back in their last at-bat, and they would plate 1 score. Unfortunately, the rally would die.

Dalton Cornett would finish 3-3, including a home run, while Chance Cornett smacked 2 hits, including a double. Peyton Buford would smash a home run and join Chance Cornett with 2 RBI’s, while Garret Gay added a double.

Three Eagle pitchers would allow 5 earned runs in the tough-luck loss with Will Gladson suffering the decision.

Johnson won the hitting battle, 9-8.

 Game 2
ALC – 4 | JU – 5

The Eagles made a gallant comeback but dropped a second 1-run battle in game two.

The visitors struck first as they plated 2 runs the opening inning, before adding 2 more in the third, to lead 4-0.

ALC responded with 4 big runs of their own in the fourth. The big blast was a 3-run homer, courtesy of Gavan Rupe.

Unfortunately, Johnson would manage to slide the go-ahead run across the plate in their next at-bat. They would then close out the final two innings to earn the big win.

Rupe led the squad with 2 hits, while Isaac Stephens, Bryce Tucker, and Noah Dingess added 1 hit apiece.

Four Eagle pitchers allowed only 1 earned runs as the home club hurt themselves immensely with 6 errors. Mason Grigsby suffered the tough-luck loss on the mound.

The Eagles were outhit 6-5.
