Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles softball team played host to Miami-Hamilton on April 13th. Following are recaps from the double-header.

MH – 11 | Alice Lloyd – 4

The visitors received 5 runs in the second inning and made them hold up to earn the victory in the opener.

ALC struck first with 1 run in their first at-bat. Jada Estep doubled and promptly stole third. She then scored on Abby Stambaugh’s single.

However, Hamilton would use 5 singles to produce 5 runs in a big second inning and lead 5-1.

Alice Lloyd earned 1 of those back in the third when Estep singled and then proceeded to swipe both second and third base. She then scored on a grounder, and the score stood 5-2.

After Miami scored 2 fifth inning runs, the Lady Eagles matched them when Alyssa Clark blasted a 2-run shot to center to shrink the deficit to 7-4.

Unfortunately, that was as close as the home team would get. MH would spread 4 runs out over the next two innings to earn the win.

Clark finished 2-4 with her home-run and 4 RBI’s while Jada Estep went 3-4 with 2 doubles and 3 steals.

Mercedes Gilliam took the loss on the mound.

Miami won the hitting battle, 14-8.

MH – 5 | Alice Lloyd – 7

The Lady Eagles stormed back from a 5-0 deficit to pull out the impressive victory.

Miami jumped out of the gates quickly as they produced 1 run in the first, 3 runs in the second, and their 5th run in the third inning.

However, the Lady Eagles began their comeback bid in the bottom of the same inning. They would plate 2 runs when Samantha Sturgill uncorked a 2 run shot over the left field wall.

Then, in the fifth inning, after 1 run had scored and with 1 runner on base, Alyssa Clark unloaded on a fastball and smashed a blast to center field to tie the score at 5-5.

With the momentum now on their side, in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Eagles would take the lead for good when they produced 2 more runs. Suddenly, the hosts led 7-5.

That cushion was just what pitcher Haley Howell needed. After getting off to a rough start in the early innings, she settled down and allowed no more runs. She then slammed the door shut in the final inning to preserve the nice win.

Jada Estep wielded a hot bat as she finished 3-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. She added 1 steal. Morgan Robinson finished 2-3 with 1 RBI. Clark and Sturgill each provided 2 RBI’s with their moon shots over the fence.

On the mound, Howell permitted only 3 earned runs to take the game from the mound.

MH outhit Alice Lloyd 13-10, but the hosts came through in the clutch with the decisive blows.
