The third ALC Spring Invitational golf tournament was held at Battlefield Golf Course on March 31st and April 1st. Berea College, Brescia University, IU Kokomo, Shawnee State, Kentucky State and West Virginia State Tech participated in the tournament along with Alice Lloyd College. Berea College and Alice Lloyd College had fewer than 4 players and could not compete as a team. The golf course was in excellent condition. The weather was warm and windy the first day and cool with a bit of rain on the second day. This tournament drew a lot of spectators.
IU Kokomo won the tournament by 10 shots over Brescia University shooting 298 the first round and 305 the second round for a total of 603. Kevin Kim of Berea was the medalist shooting 74/71 for 145 and a 2 shot win over three players at 147, including ALC senior Jared Albright. Jared played Kevin head to head both rounds, and the two were neck and neck with the last two holes deciding the match. Jared wound up shooting 74/73 for his 147, and a spot on the All-Tournament team. The All-Tournament team included Kevin Kim – Berea (145), Jared Albright – ALC (147), Austin Welch – IUK (147), Taylor Fletcher – IUK (147) and Steven Zimmerman – Shawnee State (149).
Eagles golfer Tyler Brewer shot a 73 the second round to go with an 83 the first round and a total of 156, his best tournament to date with 73 his best tournament round to date. Tyler finished 14th of the 39 golfers entered. Aaron Minor shot 80/79 for a two-round total of 159 to finish tied for 22nd. Results are listed here.
This was one of the team’s best results ever. This is the second time in succession Jared has contended to win a tournament. The next tournament is the UPike Spring Invitational, held at Stonecrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, on April 14th and 15th.
