Rio Grande, OH – The Alice Lloyd College Eagles traveled to Rio Grande, Ohio to face the Red Storm of Rio Grande University. The hosts grabbed the early lead and held on for a 104-85 win. The River States Conference action took place on January 21.

In the opening half, ALC got two buckets from sophomore forward Chance Cornett after Rio Grande had scored the game’s first five points, but the Red Storm responded with a 16-4 run to open up a 21-8 lead with 12:04 left in the first half.

The Eagles got as close as eight points before a late run by Rio built a 56-39 advantage by intermission.

In the second half, the Eagles would reduce the deficit to 12 points, 58-46, with 16:29 to play in the game, but the Red Storm counter-punched with a 10-0 run over the next two minutes and were never seriously threatened again.

For Alice Lloyd (10-8; 3-6 RSC) five players reached double figures. They were led on the night by sophomore guard Blake Smith with 25 points while freshman guard Timmy Dalton was next in line with 17. Cornett contributed 13 while junior forward Dondre Warren and freshman guard Noah Young each added 13 points. Warren led in rebounds with 8 while Crisp dished out 4 assists. Smith had 2 blocks and 4 steals.

ALC shot just 38.9% (28-72) from the field and only 17.4% (4-23) from long range. They sank 69.4% (25-36) from the foul line. They also added 36 rebounds, 5 assists, and 15 steals.

For Rio Grande (9-12; 4-5 RSC), Stanley Christian led seven different double-digit scorers with 19 points.

His club finished shooting 58.3% (35-60) from the floor and 41.2% (7-17) from behind the arc. They sank 81.8% (27-33) from the foul line and also added 43 rebounds, 12 assists, and 10 steals.

ALC returns to conference action this week for 3 huge games at home. On Tuesday, January 23, they face West Virginia Tech University at 7:30 pm. They will follow that at home on Thursday, January 25 with a 7:30 pm matchup against Carlow University.  Finally, they close out the week on Saturday, January 27 when they face Point Park University at 3:00 pm.
