We split this week’s Female Athlete of the Week honor between Whitesburg, Kentucky cross country runner Kasey Troutt and Garrett, Kentucky volleyball player Kelsie Jackson.
In the challenging Berea College Cross Country Invitational with 120 total runners, the sophomore Troutt led the team in the 5K (3.1 miles) race as she crossed the line in a solid season-opening race time of 22:13. Her swift performance helped pave the way as the Eagle women’s squad has now qualified for the NCCAA Women’s Cross Country National Championship in Jackson, Mississippi on November 11.
Jackson was solid in the clubs volleyball match this week against the NCCAA’s 7th ranked Johnson University. In the contest, the freshman helped her club fight to the fifth set before dropping a heartbreaker. On the night, she finished the five sets with 15 kills, 41 attacks and 3 digs.
