On Saturday, May 6th, family and friends gathered at the Grady Nutt Athletic Center to watch the largest, ALC graduating class to date receive their degree from Alice Lloyd College.
In opening remarks, President Joe Stepp welcomed family and friends to the campus and praised graduates for their outstanding accomplishments. The Class of 2017 was blessed with a moving baccalaureate address from Reverend Lawrence Baldridge of Pippa Passes, Kentucky, who has been pastor of Caney Baptist Church since 1964. The commencement address was delivered by Bill Goodman a native of Glasgow, KY. Goodman had a 21-year career with Kentucky Education Television (KET), where he served as host and managing editor of the Emmy Award-winning public affairs series Kentucky Tonight. Additionally, Today, Goodman serves as the chief executive officer of the Kentucky Humanities Council.
Following the confirmation of degrees two graduates were recognized for their academic achievements. Dr. Claude “Lafie” Crum, Academic Dean, presented the salutatorian award to Katie McFarland. The prestigious valedictorian award was given to Maegyn Bates.
In addition to recognizing our graduates, President Stepp also presented two special awards to faculty and staff members. Dr. Patrick Greene, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Physics, was given the Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award, and Deborah Holbrook, ALC Assistant Director of Development, received the Leadership in Service Award.
