The Alice Lloyd Eagles hosted Ohio Mid-Western College on Monday, March 10th, and Ohio Christian University on Tuesday, March 11th. The Eagles were not going to be denied as the home team went 4-0 against the two teams. Below is a recap of the two series.

Tanner Hensley

March 10th
Game 1:
ALC 7 – OMC 2

The Eagles elected Neil Dillon to start the opening game of the two-set. Both teams went scoreless through one, but in the second inning, ALC captured the lead. Alice Lloyd brought two runs home to take a 2-0 advantage. More scoring for the Eagles in the fourth (two runs) and fifth (one run) innings made their lead 5-0.

Ohio Mid-Western scored two in the top of the sixth, but ALC got those runs back in the bottom half.

Alex Dapkus and Dustin Williams both had two runs batted in, while Tanner Hensley had one. In the six innings he pitched, Dillon allowed four hits and two runs while striking out six. Timmy Sublett went one inning and recorded one strikeout.

Game 2:
ALC 6 – OMC 5

Game two would be a much closer affair as Justin Smith started for ALC.

OMC scored first in the second to make it 1-0. The visitors would also score in each of the next two innings (one in the third, two in the fourth) to make it 4-0. Not yet finished, OMC would tack on another run in the top of the sixth to make it 5-0.

The Eagles made a furious comeback in the bottom of the sixth. All six of the Eagles’ runs came in the sixth, which allowed them to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Kevin Smith and Shane Pack were the RBI leaders with two, while Tanner Hensley and Wyatt Hamilton had an RBI each. Smith went three innings as he surrendered two hits, two runs, and a walk. Smith also recorded three Ks. Daniel Burgess, Patrick Barnett, Timmy Sublett, and Wayne Sparks pitched the last four innings. The quad allowed two hits, three runs, three walks and gathered three strikeouts.

Game 1:
ALC 7 – OCU 6

ALC found themselves in another tight contest against Ohio Christian as Ryan Burrow was given the start.

OCU wasted no time getting on the board, plating one to take a 1-0 lead. The visiting team scored three more in the top of the third to make it 4-0.

ALC responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half to make it 4-3, still in favor of OCU. OCU scored a run in the fourth to pad their small cushion (5-3). When they returned to the plate, Alice Lloyd added two runs to make it 5-5.

In the fifth, ALC took the lead with one run scored to make it 6-5. Unfortunately, though, the Eagles could not close the door on OCU, as the road team put up a one spot to tie it at 6. Neither team could score in the seventh, so the game went into extra innings.

Alice Lloyd was able to pull it out in the ninth, bringing home the game-winning run.

Alex Dapkus, Ben Ray, Shane Pack, Tanner Hensley and Kevin Smith all had an RBI for ALC. Burrow pitched two and two-thirds innings, giving up two hits and four runs while walking three and striking out two. The other six and one-third innings belonged to Logan Condra and Timmy Sublett, allowing three hits and two runs and striking out three batters.

Game 2:
ALC 5 – OCU 2

The final game of the series featured Jordan Horn as the starter for ALC.

The bats remained silent for two innings, but Ohio Christian struck first in the third, putting one run on the scoreboard. Another run in top of the fourth gave OCU a 2-0 advantage before ALC rallied in the bottom half to even the score at 2. Alice Lloyd would take the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth, tacking on two runs to make it 4-2.

ALC supplied their relievers with an insurance run in the sixth to seal the victory.

Wyatt Hamilton, Tanner Hensley, Corey Dollarhide, and Shane Pack brought one run home each. Horn pitched three innings, allowing just one hit and one run. Mackenzie Hicks and Chance Westerfield provided relief as the two went four innings, surrendering three hits and a run while getting four batters out on strikes.
