The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles hosted the Milligan Lady Buffaloes on Saturday, November 9th. Even though the game was close throughout, Milligan pulled away late to win, 88-79.
Alice Lloyd came into this one looking to keep their undefeated record intact. In the first half, it was an absolute tussle as both teams kept each other at bay. Milligan’s chief advantage in the first half was the the team was able to get into the bonus early, thus allowing the Lady Buffaloes to shoot foul shots within the first few minutes. Despite this, ALC was able to take a one-point lead, 34-33, into the locker room.
In the second stanza, the Lady Eagles hit a snag on offense and could not execute with consistency. This lack of execution, along with turnovers, allowed Milligan to take the lead and never look back as they outscored the Lady Eagles, 55-45. Still, the Lady Eagles had a chance to make things interesting late, but missed a shot that could’ve cut the Lady Buffaloes lead and made it a one-possession game.
Carla Booth had 27 points for the Lady Eagles while Ariel Nickell recorded 24 points and 15 rebounds.
Milligan was led by a superb shooting performance from forward Allison Jones. Jones was 9-11 from the floor, scoring 21 points.
The Lady Eagles welcome the University of Pikeville to Pippa Passes on Tuesday, November 12th. The game will tip-off at 8:00 PM.
