The Alice Lloyd Eagles Baseball team hosted the Asbury University Eagles in four critical conference games over the weekend. Below are recaps of each contest.
The hosts scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to win an extra-inning thriller. Catcher Devon Pelfrey had 3 of his club’s 10 hits, which included a triple, and added 2 RBIs. Designated hitter Kevin Smith added 2 singles. ALC outhit AU 10-8 for the game.
Neil Dillon pitched 6 innings, giving up only 5 hits and allowing only 2 runs to earn the victory. He struck out 5 batters. Cody Hyden came on in relief to earn the save.
Cory Brewer tossed a 3-hit shutout to propel Alice Lloyd to the big win. Third baseman Cody Hyden had 2 of the hosts 4 hits and added the game’s lone RBI in the bottom of the first. ALC did leave 7 runners stranded in the pitching duel.
The hosts trailed 8-0 after four innings before battling back; unfortunately, their rally came up short. For ALC, left fielder Trae Minton accounted for 3 hits, including a triple. Both clubs each had 9 hits for the game.
Pitcher Ian Delaney tossed 4 innings and suffered the loss.
Third baseman Cody Hyden, DH Kevin Smith, catcher Bobby Caldwell, and shortstop Ben Ray, each had 2 hits apiece to spark the hosts on offense, but it was the pitching of Wayne Sparks, who tossed 6 innings of 4-hit ball, that propelled Alice Lloyd to the nice win. Sparks also struck out 6 batters on the day. Trevor Corns came on in relief and earned the save.
