Pippa Passes, KY: The NCCAA Mideast Regional Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles hosted NAIA foe Asbury University on February 14th in a doubleheader. Following are recaps of each contest.

GAME 1

AU – 15
 Alice Lloyd – 0

The visitors jumped out to a 5-0 lead and then were forced to hold on for the win.

Asbury opened up the scoring with 2 runs in second inning and 3 more in the third.

The hosts would answer with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, but would later find themselves trailing 8-2 entering the bottom of the fifth.

The hometown Eagles would fight back.

ALC would plate 1 run in the bottom half of the fifth inning and then produce 3 big runs in the sixth as freshman Abigail Stambaugh, drilled a triple to account for 2 RBI’s and junior Madisson Minks and sophomore Jada Estep both cracked doubles to fuel the late-inning resurgence.

Unfortunately, the rally died just a little short of a complete comeback.

For ALC, Estep played big with 3 hits and 2 RBI’s. Junior Madison Gaines also smacked 3 hits of her own, while sophomore Mckenzie Brewer smacked a pair of hits. Freshman Alyssa Clark added a single and 1 RBI to the cause while classmate Hannah Buchanan added 1 RBI.

Asbury pitcher Deana Phillips earned the victory, allowing 12 hits and 6 earned runs while striking out 5.

Freshman Haley Howell took the pitching loss. She allowed 12 hits, but just 4 earned runs. She also struck out 4 with 3 walks.

Both squads recorded 12 hits on the day.

GAME 2

AU – 8  
Alice Lloyd – 3

 ALC looked solid at the start as they grabbed an early lead, but unfortunately, they could not hold it in the later innings.

The hosts jumped out of the gates quickly.  Freshman Hannah Buchanan delivered with a crushing homerun as her team posted 3 runs in the first inning.

 Asbury would eat into the deficit as they were able to earn 1 run back in both the second and third innings.

Trailing 3-2 heading into the sixth, AU unleashed a big 6 run inning two pull ahead 8-3.

Unfortunately, Alice Lloyd was unable to answer as they could not come up with the one big clutch hit they so desperately needed.

For the hosts, in addition to Buchanan’s blow and RBI, junior Samantha Sturgill, and sophomores Jada Estep and Mckenzie Brewer, each smacked a single. Freshman Alyssa Clark added 1 RBI to the cause.

Pitcher Paige Hill earned the victory, as she allowed 4 hits while registering 8 strike-outs.

Sophomore Mercedez Gilliam suffered the pitching loss. She allowed 7 earned runs on 11 hits with 2 walks. The visitors outhit Alice Lloyd 13-4.
